GRNC Alert 02-10-08:

Lincoln County Commissioner Says Your Input Not Necessary

If you are interested the Lincoln Tribune is running a poll on this
issue: www.lincolntribune.com

As we re****ted, Lincoln County Commissioner Marie Moore has proposed
an ordinance to heavily restrict - in most cases prohibiting - the
discharge of firearms within 500 feet of any building "designed to be
occupied by human beings."

Now it is learned that Ms. Moore along with county attorney Jeff
Taylor feels that input from a public hearing is "not required."
Predicting the public outcry, Commissioner Bruce Carlton said it would
be "good to give the public the op****tunity to express themselves."
Commissioners agreed to hear this matter during the second meeting in
March, but in the interest of limiting public input, Moore wanted it
heard sooner. The matter will now be heard the FIRST meeting in March.

In the interest of facilitating public input, GRNC wishes to keep you
appraised of this situation and provide you the avenue to introduce
your views on this matter to the Board of Commissioners.

To recap:

The ordinance begins with the pitch that as the county becomes more
populated that it is "reasonable to regulate" shooting. For those who
follow gun rights, the "reasonable regulation" approach should be
quite familiar as it is the current mantra of gun grabbers all around
the state. Among the first provisions is one making it unlawful to
discharge a firearm "for the purpose of terrorizing or annoying" other
people. Legal expertise is not required to know that threatening or
endangering others with any weapon has been illegal from the time laws
were first written, so at first blush, this proviso appears innocent
enough, but you must consider this carefully. Any time a firearm is
displayed of fired, it will certainly ANNOY if not outright TERRORIZE
anyone who is anti-gun. Such language and tactics have been used quite
effectively by gun-grabbers elsewhere in recent years.

If the RINOs succeed and you violate this ordinance, you could find
yourself having twenty days to come up with $500. Fail to fork it over
in that relatively short amount of time and be prepared to spend
thirty days in jail. You'd best have good relations with those
newcomers living out their dream of a "house in the country"... or get
your checkbook ready.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

* Contact the Lincoln County Commissioners - contact info follows
message - and deliver this message:

Dear Commissioner:

It is very upsetting that Commissioner Moore wishes to introduce a
measure as contrary to the character of the community as the ordinance
limiting gun owners' shooting rights and feels that the public has no
right to input.

This is a poorly thought out measure and should be rejected out of
hand. I will continue to monitor the progress of this issue and urge
you to vote against it.

Sincerely,

A Concerned Voter
