Veterans Day / Memorial Day Poem #243
Quarter to four and the lights are still out
Quarter to four and the lights are still out
Waking up early is tough, no doubt
I have a mission that must be attained
They need me to teach, they need to be trained
I look in the mirror and question my choice
My head feels heavy and I can t find my voice
Am I ready to tackle the dawn of a new day?
I am the only one to show them the way
My mind races with things I must teach
And how to show them it is within their reach
My uniform is sharp and shoes are ****ned
The only thing lagging is my slow waking mind
I take one last glance over my reflected image
And realize again, this hat is a privilege
An MTI is symbol of pride and perfection
We provide trainees with Air Force direction
My job is to make them ready for what they must do
No longer civilians they have crossed into the blue
I place my hat on my head and my scowl turns to a grin
I have sixty trainees transforming to Airmen
My head is no longer heavy and I hear my voice strong
My choice was correct; this is where I belong
Today has many challenges waiting in store
And tomorrow will start at a quarter to four.
