NBC'S SUE SORRY FOR "FUCK"-UP
By Ed Robinson
May 13, 2008
Veteran TV anchor Sue Simmons apologized last night after using a
"Channel 4" letter word on the air.
Simmons, who's been with WNBC-TV for 28 years, dropped an F-bomb after
she appeared to become angry during a promo for the station's upcoming
11 p.m. newscast.
While teasing a story about rising food prices, she stopped in mid-
sentence, shouting "What the f - - - are you doing?"
Simmons was not seen on camera at the time, and it wasn't immediately
known whom she was screaming at
A spokeswoman for WNBC said she was broadcasting live with her
longtime co-anchor Chuck Scarborough at the time, but could not
provide any further details. Simmons expressed her remorse during the
first segment of the newscast, which aired about 30 minutes later,
acknowledging she "said a word that many people find offensive."
"I'm truly sorry," she said. "It was a mistake on my part, and I
sincerely apologize."
