the curious incident of no nation

by marika <mcenko@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Aug 31, 2006 at 04:09 AM

Also, I was marveling at how I thought many of the resue workers would have
post-traumatic stress when 911 was over, and perhaps wouldn't be able to
do this
for a living again after they clean up all that debris and find all those

body
parts. and how I saw this follow-up show about some of the firefighters
who
rescued that Jessica baby from the well a few years ago, and as small as
that was
compared to this (and it ended happily!) the ones who were directly
involved with
the responsibility of getting her out- some of them had nervous breakdowns
afterwards, and one even committed suicide. I don't really understand why,

but
they said it had to do with stress and depression after the event. So I
was
telling this story, and someone got real defensive and said thousands and

thousands of
people lived through WWII and NOT ONE had stress or depression
afterwards... NOT
ONE! EVERYBODY WAS JUST FINE! And she was adamant. And so I did not pursue

it,
because I didn't want to offend her (since she lived through it and I
didn't) but
I thought it was kinda hallucinatory for her to say NOT ONE person had any

stress
as a result of WWII, as if she knew each one personally. I mean, there had

to be
at least one person on the planet who had depression or nightmares or a
nervous
breakdown... I mean, you'd HAVE to if you saw all that death,.... NO?

Also, the rescue workers in NYC aren't on a battlefield, where you expect

to see
dead people. They were drinking coffee and having donuts at the
firestation at
8:30, and at 9:30, half of them were dead. I think that might be a little
stressful to the ones who have to find them and dig them out now.
