The sad fact is that economically speaking nations no longer exist in the
manner which we remember them as children.

Once upon a time a democratic nation - even though it was divided into
irreconcilable cl***** - would still have a concept of the "common good"
and the needs of the poor and the weak

The concept of "the common good" is what led even strongly anticapitalist
groups to sup****t their conservative capitalist governments in times of
war - the pay off was a recognition on the part of capitalism that the
economically weaker and the physically weaker needed and should be
entitled to protection. This social contract was the backbone of what in
more advanced democratic countries was the "welfare state"

The "welfare state" took many forms, free education to post university
level and health services were two major areas of that contract.
Employment in nationally owned businesses such as the railways, mines and
utilities was another. Capital works funded by government from taxation
was another, such as roads. Public housing was another . Only after all
this was welfare in the form of dole payouts etc necessary.

The Welfare State replaced the "commons" of the pre industrial revolution
era, which had provided subsistence grazing land. The "enclosures " had
cut off this land from the people and people had been forced into the
industrial cities or had starved to death

But the old nation state is now dead - it is a myth maintained by big
business through its media outlets , to keep the people in ignorance and
in order.

The reality is that Capitalism has globalised - tearing down the trade
barriers that protect both indigenous manufacturing and service providing
and also the labor market. The wage you receive for your work is no
longer based on an internally regulated level - it is now based on whether
overseas countries can provide that labor more cheaply to the once
internally based Cor****ation.

So running shoes get made under slave conditions in Asia and the governing
price of labor in America's democratic nation is decided by its cost in
authoritarian China.

Worse still, through protection of trade agreements, Governments such as
the American Government effectively prop up the repressive regimes of
nations such as China. The real boss of the Communist Party of China is
now Wa****ngton DC. The real cause of continuing human rights abuse in
China is American economic policy.

A Fascistic regime can provide cheap labor and it is this Chinese labor
cost that keeps American wages down. We effectively now have an
international two class system and the Third World itself has been
globalised. It wanders the streets of your cities homeless and workless.

We are moving - sleepwalking in fact - into a major political showdown -
but this time it may well be worldwide. The dream of one World has been
turned into a nightmare through "globalisation". Worldwide now there is
only rich and poor - and the gulf between them is getting wider. An ultra
conservative Christianity has made itself the tool of the rich through its
control via Fundamentalist superstition of the poor and the middle cl*****

Such a structure must collapse under the sheer weight of deprivation and
dispossession. Jesus saw such a process in his own time - he saw a
theological political structue in Judea that could collapse in three
days. We witnessed a similar process in the collapse of Stalinism in
Europe. Our own society is next in line

Quo Vadis - "where goest thou?". If there is no theological and spiritual
reformation - no impulse given to the democratisation of society and the
increase in willingness to redistribute wealth and to share - we are
heading for a cataclysmic clash of powers - a new Stalinism or a new
Fascism - either constituting the "boot in the human face forever" of
Orwells 1984 nightmare scenario

It is far later now than "five to twelve"

Christianity wakes up to itself or it - and perhaps the world our parents
fought for - is doomed. We learn to share and to protect each other

Or the whole ****house is coming down

Regards.
