not true.
"But 450 ppm or lower is certainly achievable from an economic and
technological perspective."
http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2008/3/31/181924/330
which he goes on to detail, relying only on existing technology.
Or the IPCC: "The range of stabilization levels *****sed can be
achieved by deployment of a
****tfolio of technologies that are currently available and those that
are expected to be commercialised in coming decades."
Or Technology Review: "Catastrophic climate change is not inevitable.
We possess the technologies that could forestall global warming."
And many other similar conclusions published.
The reason we may well not get there is, of course, our species' lack
of a reliable cognitive mechanism for objectively evaluating risk and
assigning appropriate levels of effort to risk reduction, which is
basically the major cause of premature death for most individuals.
Which in this case (as in the article linked above), gets viewed as
"politics" or "economic pressure" or "cor****ate influence". Which are
all operative, of course, but are merely the intermediate variables in
the process. Can't beat evolution.
