Iran Given Two-Week Deadline to End the Nuclear Impasse
http://www.truthout.org/article/iran-given-two-week-deadline-end-nuclear-impass
Julian Borger, of The Observer: "Iran was given a fortnight to agree to
freeze
its uranium enrichment program yesterday or face further international
isolation. After a day of inconclusive talks in Geneva, a six-nation
negotiating team warned the Iranian delegation that it had run out of
patience
and demanded a 'yes or no' answer to a proposal it put forward five weeks
ago."

Obama's Visit Renews Focus on Afghanistan
http://www.truthout.org/article/obamas-visit-renews-focus-afghanistan
Carlotta Gall and Jeff Zeleny, of The New York Times: "Senator Barack
Obama
met with President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan here on Sunday, the second
day
of Mr. Obama's high-profile foreign trip in a country that is increasingly
the
focus of his clash with Senator John McCain over whether the war in Iraq
has
been a distraction in hunting down terrorists. Even as Mr. Obama met
privately
with American troops, military leaders and Afghan officials in the eastern
part of the country on Saturday, Mr. McCain was questioning his judgment
on
foreign policy."

Cheney and ExxonMobil Linked to Global Warming Policy ****ft

James Gerstenzang, of The Los Angeles Times: "A congressional
investigation
has produced new details on the degree to which senior Bush administration
officials favored using the Clean Air Act to limit greenhouse gas
emissions -
until pressure from Vice President Dick Cheney's office, ExxonMobil and
others
in the oil industry led the Bush administration to change course."

Frank Rich | It's the Economic Stupidity, Stupid
http://www.truthout.org/article/its-economic-stupidity-stupid
Frank Rich, of The New York Times: "In 2000, he told an interviewer that
he
would make up for his lack of attention to 'those issues.' As he entered
the
2008 campaign, Mr. McCain was still saying the same, vowing to read
'Greenspan's book' as a tutorial. Last weekend, the resolutely analog
candidate told The New York Times he is at last starting to learn how 'to
get
online myself.' Perhaps he'll retire his abacus by Election Day."

Housing Prices Haven't Hit Bottom Yet
http://www.truthout.org/article/housing-prices-havent-hit-bottom-yet
Kevin G. Hall, of McClatchy Newspapers: "The Bush administration's pledge
to
rescue ailing housing finance giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac raises
anew
questions about just when the nation's dismal housing market will hit
bottom.
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson
have suggested over the past year that an end is in sight. But with each
prediction, things have grown worse. For many homeowners, the deep housing
slump feels like a drop off a skyscraper."
