Britain's PM Backs Obama Plan for Iraq and Afghanistan
http://www.truthout.org/article/britains-pm-backs-obama-plan-iraq-and-afghanistan
Jane Merrick, of The Independent UK: "Although he is refusing to set a
detailed timetable for withdrawal, it is clear Mr Brown is in agreement
with
the US presidential candidate Barack Obama on the need for military action
in
Afghanistan to take priority. Both appear to be working to a 16-month
timetable."

Mc***ist: McCain's War on Women
http://www.truthout.org/article/mc***ist-mccains-war-women
Kate Sheppard, for In These Times: "McCain's campaign has been making a
clear
play for women voters in recent weeks, hosting conference calls with
Republican women and touting that his policies on national security, the
economy and healthcare appeal to women voters. But the suggestion that
women -
and feminist women, at that - will be lining up behind him is a fairytale.
At
least, it should be. McCain's record and policies on issues of im****tance
to
women are neither moderate nor maverick."

First Guantanamo War Crimes Trial Under Way
http://www.truthout.org/article/first-guantanamo-war-crimes-trial-under-way
Jim Loney, of Reuters: "The first U.S. war crimes trial since World War
Two
began on Monday at the U.S. navy base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, nearly
seven
years after the September 11 attacks prompted President George W. Bush to
declare war on terrorism. Osama bin Laden's former driver, Salim Ahmed
Hamdan,
faces charges of conspiracy and providing material sup****t for terrorism
and
could face life in prison if convicted by a jury of U.S. military
officers."

US Tells Lies About Torture, Say Members of Parliament
http://www.truthout.org/article/us-tells-lies-about-torture-say-members-parliament
Tracy McVeigh, of The Observer: "Britain can no longer believe what
Americans
tell us about torture, an MPs' re****t to be published today claims. They
also
call for an immediate investigation into allegations that the UK
government
has itself 'outsourced' the torture of its own nationals to Pakistan."

At Least Two Die in Blasts on Chinese Buses
http://www.truthout.org/article/at-least-two-die-blasts-chinese-buses
Jim Yardley of The New York Times: "Two public buses exploded during the
Monday morning rush hour in the city of Kunming, killing at least two
people
and injuring 14 others in what authorities described as deliberate attacks
as
China is tightening security nationwide and warning of possible terrorist
threats in advance of next month's Olympic Games."

Nuclear Power a T***** Issue for Candidates
http://www.truthout.org/article/nuclear-power-a-t*****-issue-for-candidates
David Kestenbaum, NPR News: "Nuclear power doesn't usually make for an
applause line in a stump speech, but it has come up on the campaign trail.
Both Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain see it as a way to combat climate
change, though they've sometimes chosen their words with care."
