A lie, actually.  The Boy Scouts spent a ****load of money, quite
likely lying to the U.S. Supreme Court, because someone thought that
excluding gays was a good marketing move.  The result was to
*increase* the risk of children being ***ually abused - openly gay men
are probably the least likely demographic group to chase after
children.  Think about it - what pedophile with half a brain would
state that he was gay if he wanted to become a scout master in order
to get access to children?  None would - so the openly gay guys the
boy scouts are excluding are among the least likely members of the
population to harm children.  By excluding those, the BSA has in
fact increased the risk to children by restricting the pool of
possible scoutmasters to a more dangerous subset of the population.

It's a question of solving the wrong problem in a way that, out of
stupidity, makes the situation worse.
