If I'm a criminal paying more attention to some broad than to my mark, I'm

too many movies, frex, and lots of stupid citizens who do so as well.
Keeping in mind that one should always do what the person holding a gun on
one says is a smart idea (and even applies to the representatives of
government, who can usually arrange to get bigger guns than anything you
have, as well as more of them), and shouldn't be disregarded just because
the criminal may be stupid or nervous. He may not be stupid enough to let
you have a chance to kill him, but he may be nervous enough to kill you
without intending. Keeping him calm, cool and collected serves you well,
because a reasonably smart mugger will not elect to commit murder, since
the penalty is a tad stiff, should he get caught. If he's clearly stupid,
then by all means, distract him and take your best shot, but if he's kind
of borderline, take no chances. Move slowly, talk low, stay calm, and you
might live.
