Signing Open Letter in Sup****t of the Mineworkers of Cananea

Open Letter in Sup****t of the Mineworkers of Cananea, for the Removal of
the
Police from the Mines, and for the Full Respect for Labor Rights

Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Preparatory Committee of the Second
Continental Conference:

We have been informed by the U.S. Organizing Committee of the Second
Continental Conference that on January 14, the Mexican Secretary of Labor
moved
to break the six-month strike of the mineworkers of the heroic town of
Cananea,
Sonora, using thousands of units of the federal police (PFP) and the army
itself.

We have also been informed that Mexican working people, with its
organizations,
are resisting and fighting back. On January 16, the National Mineworkers
Union
organized a strike in the first ****ft of all its local affiliates
throughout
Mexico, shutting down 85 different mines from north to south, and has
called
for a demonstration on January 22 in defense of the right to strike and
for the
removal of the police from the mines.

With this letter we convey our full sup****t for the mineworkers in
struggle in
Cananea, as well as our sup****t for the demands raised by the Mineworkers
Union: the immediate removal of the PFP police from the mine and for the
respect of labor rights and the collective bargaining contracts of the
mineworkers.

Sincerely,

[follows list of signatories]
