The First NG War
As you know, this is the first war (Operation Iraqi Freedom) in American
history that the Reserves and Natl Guard were primarily committed to a war
above and ahead of the Regular/Active forces. During the Vietnam War the
National Guard was briefly committed during the final weeks of Tet ‘68.
The NG fought well, it is believed, because they knew that as soon as they
accomplished their assigned combat mission to sup****t our Regulars during
that short period they would return home... and the sooner they did their
job, the sooner they were relieved of it.
However, there was much talk among officers in the Pentagon shortly before
the invasion of Iraq in 2003 that said the current president’s sole
motivation for prioritizing Reserve and NG service in Iraq was to create
the impression that the Reserves and NG were routinely involved in foreign
combat assignment during our foreign wars... and in the process of
conveying this falsehood... the American public would be led to
(mis)believe that that their current CINC had also served in combat as an
Air Natl Guardsman.
From the first day of his announcement that he would run for president,
Mr. Bush put out press releases that he was a “combat pilot”... when in
fact he had never flown a single combat mission... and his only scramble
assignment involved his group chasing off three Mexican Air Force pilots
who go lost over Arizona.
Additionally, the first Executive Order signed by Mr. Bush was an
amendment to the National Defense Service Medal Act (Ref #1) that, on his
request, retroactively awarded the NDSM to all Reservists, NG and IRRs...
i.e., including himself... Mr. Bush has no military awards for his ANG
service prior to his authorizing himself the NDSM. (As you may know, the
NDSM was previously authorized only to Active Duty personnel... which
included Reserves, NG’s and IRR called to active service. At no time
during Mr. Bush’s NG duty was he called to active service. All of his
flights were classified as “Training”.)
Needless to include... Mr. Bush suited up as a “combat pilot” to land on
an aircraft carrier flagging the banner “Mission Accomplished” shortly
after he invaded Iraq. This stunt was pulled to help complete the
implanted/progandized idea that he was a former “combat pilot”. (John
Kerry, a Silver Star and Purple Heart recipient has recently announced his
intention to run for president.. hence, Mr. Bush needed to create a myth of
his “combat” service in order to compete with a valid, wartime medal
recipient.)
The role of the Reservist is to train for combat or combat sup****t
supplement. The role of the NG is to provide military law-enforcement,
civil stabilization or emergency recovery service. (When enlisting in the
NG Mr Bush checked the box on his enlistment application form which asked
if he did not wish to serve overseas. By specifying that he did not wish
to serve overseas, Mr. Bush was, in fact, stating that he did not want to
serve in Vietnam.
As mature men we all know that sending a boy to do a man’s job usually
results in job failure. And as combat veterans who served in Vietnam we
also know that sending conventionally trained NG’s to fight a major
guerilla/urban war in Iraq has resulted in the overall failure in that
campaign. (Technically, Iraq is not a “war”, it is a “campaign” having
been elevated from an “operation”)... just as assigning females to guard
male prisoners in the Abu Gharib facility resulted into the ***ual sadism
that occurred there.
Females should not be assigned to guard male prisoners... and NG’s should
not be assigned to carry the major load in a combat theater.
The war was lost in Vietnam after November, 1968 when Mr. Nixon reversed
the Draft Table (Ref #2) which mandated that the youngest, not the oldest,
wiser and more mature would be drafted and/or sent to Vietnam. We lost the
Vietnam War because we sent boys (however well motivated and well
intentioned) to do a man’s job. (The average age of Vietnam personnel
after 1968 was nineteen... the average age of overseas personnel in the
Pacific and Europe during WW2 was twenty-six. WW2 servicemen under General
George S. Patton secured the entire Iraqi Theater in 3 (three) months.)
We are losing the war in Iraq because Mr. Bush sent men (and women) who
are basically trained to fight fires and provide flood relief... a force
that proved itself in 1974 to be grossly unqualified even to contain an
unarmed student protest at Kent State on the NG’s own turf... and unable
to perform rapid rescue and public service operations during Hurricane
Katrina... NG’s should never be expected to deal with combatants on the
level of guerilla-trained former Iraqi military troops and highly
motivated terrorists operating on their home turf.
A lot more can be said on this subject...
