I don't see the current administration - or their flunkies in Downing 
Street - putting any serious effort into harnessing any non-fossil energy 
sources.  And *they're* not usually described as 'liberal'.

No-one's making any serious effort to sort out fusion.  No-one's looking
at 
practical methods of collecting energy from the massive generator in the 
sky that's throwing out more power than we could ever *possibly* use.  No-
one's sorting out whether zero-point *is* actually a viable energy source.
 
There are private initiatives, but barring some remarkable luck, I can't 
see them going anywhere.  And even if they do, will they be allowed to 
interfere in the politicians' lucrative status quo?

No, the current western governments dabble - just enough to make it look
as 
though they're taking things seriously.  But 'liberal' or not, we're all
in 
thrall to the oil monopoly and, if current government attitudes are 
anything to go by, that's exactly where we're staying, even as prices
rise, 
economies crumble and people starve.
