Do all libertarians believe in this? I consider myself a libertarian, but
after reading this I am reconsidering my position. Your right as an
American to write what you have is being protected by those that you are
so
quick to slander.
In my opinion Bush is being proactive so that you or your loved ones are
not
in danger. There is no question that Saddam was a threat to our country.
Not just as the tyrant of a country that could choose to attack us or our
embassies but, also as a someone that would provide safe haven to those
fundamentalist groups that wish to do harm to all Americans because we are
Americans.
Those brave individuals (regardless of their motivation) have decided to
risk everything so that you and I can have this discussion without the
fear
of oppression.
I do believe in ideas behind the libertarian party, but I missed the part
of
being ignorant to what is happening around us. No one can argue that we
live in a different world now. Unfortunately, terrorists have not taken
up
a state or nation in which we can attack and destroy. They have chosen to
hide in countries that are sympathetic to their cause. These countries
are
those that are controlled by fundamentalist tyrants. Iraq was a prime
example of a country that had ill feelings towards the US. Not only did
Saddam attempt to kill one of our presidents (George the first) but he has
ties to Bin Laden's terrorist network. In my mind this would make him a
little bit more than a threat.
Don't get me wrong, we can not get complacent. The liberation of Iraq
alone
will not assure our safety. We (United States) have to be ever diligent
to
be the aggressors when it comes to terrorists. By removing this country
as
a safe haven, it is a step in the right direction. Also, by allowing
democracy to take place in this one country, it will, in time, spread to
the
rest of the region (or we can at least hope so).
I applaud the efforts of our Commander in Chief on this issue, and I
encourage him to keep up the good work.
If you are going to bad mouth the country stick to the easy one, the
taxes.
But don't risk the safety and security of our country.
Thank you,
Rich
