Michael, what, on earth, is a "state", in your view?  Most people
would describe a "state", or a "nation", as simply an established
social concensus that applies to a large group of people living in the
same place and time.  For example, one dictionary definition:

'A people who share common customs, origins, history, and frequently
language; a nationality: "Historically the Ukrainians are an ancient
nation which has persisted and survived through terrible
calamity" (Robert Conquest).'

Yes, I know.  Those evil government people who are taxing you should
