I had a catholic background... but not foreground. I try to address just 
the "nett effect" and also past the "confetti" idea of marriage (of any 
sort). It most likely is not about hording, in the same way as I think 
most hetero couples don't really look far past the confetti but are 
enough impressed by the ceremony to stay married - but the nett effect 
is it's ultimately for kids I think.
I call Catholics western jews, I reject or question very many of their 
precepts but do recognise that there are many good heads among them. 
They have a certain way of thinking which is independent of the god part.
