There are plenty of us willing to discuss unemployment but you have to
realise that the government's agenda is to try to cut benefits for the
disabled so this is certainly no 'academic' issue but a partisan one.
I agree with you about high unemployment, short-time working,
casualisation of labour etc. and yes this issue has not been
investigated enough.  However, it is necessary to fight against the
government hounding of the disabled in an economic climate where the
able bodied struggle to get regular work.  Otherwise they will push
millions of people into a 'no man's land' where they are denied
benefits on the one hand and employers will not offer them work on the
other.
