5 Shot Dead On South Side
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three men and two women were fatally shot Wednesday
afternoon inside a home in the Chatham neighborhood, police said.
CBS 2's Kris Habermehl re****ts the victims were all adults and it was
possibly a domestic incident. Police say area residents have nothing
to worry about, and the situation was contained to the home.
About 3:45 p.m. ambulances responded to 7607 S. Rhodes Ave., according
to Fire Media Affairs Asst. Director Eve Rodriguez. No one was
trans****ted to hospitals.
At least a block has been cordoned off in all directions Wednesday
evening from the unassuming 2 1/2 story home near 76th Street and King
Drive as evidence technicians work.
"Our evidence and recovery team is on the scene, we're processing the
scene right now," said police spokesperson Monique Bond. "All we can
say: multiple fatals inside a residence. This did not happen
outside."
Police say there is no reason for neighbors in the Chatham
neighborhood to fear there is a killer on the loose.
Jonathan Williams said he heard five of his friends had been killed,
and that they were all in their 20s.
"This is crazy. I don't understand any of this," Williams said. "I
hang with these people every day. Every day. And it's crazy that
someone would kill them over... it's lookin' like money, but at the same
time, I gotta say... no one would kill everyone for money."
Weis says police do not have anyone in custody, but that the crime
scene is self-contained.
