Prominent Holy Cross doctor, Republican fundraiser accused of insider
trading

The director of cardiology at Fort Lauderdale's Holy Cross Hospital
was charged Monday with using inside information to trade stock
illegally in deals that allegedly netted $540,000 for the doctor, his
brother and a friend.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charged that Zachariah P.
Zachariah, a well-known fundraiser for the Republican Party, used his
positions as a board member at pharmaceutical maker Ivax Corp. of
Miami and a consultant to Geo Group of Boca Raton in 2005 to buy
shares in the days before major acquisitions were announced.
