They're never energy sources, energy converters perhaps.

And solar power generally does not work at night.

Wind power, although variable in nature, is still nonexistent when
the wind don't blow. Heat waves are caused by stationary highs, and
during stationary highs, there ain't no wind, and no wind power.
This is also a time of peak load. If you depend on wind power you've
got a problem.
