Interestingly enough, there are references to other people who live
outside
of the garden. On being expelled from the garden, Adam & Eve are sent to
live in the land of Nod, where Cain and Abel later find wives.
According to this version, apparently there were already people in Nod,
which brings up another conundrum.
Another explanation is the Bible refers to children other than Cain &
Abel.
It may be that Cain married an anonymous daughter of Adam & Eve.
These other children are mentioned in passing and specifically. Genesis
5:4
introduces a third brother - Seth - as well as "untold sons and
daughters".
Some people believe Adam dropped poor old Eve and started up a hot affair
with Lilith after, apparently her fling with Gilgamesh.
Lilith, alternately represented as a demon and a goddess, even appears in
the Old Testament, proving she was well known to the Israelites.
Or, it could be the whole thing is just a myth, based on many myths from
the
many peoples who came before. Certainly one cannot read Gilgamesh without
thinking of Genesis. In this case it's just plain silly to look for
continuity.
Personally, I vote for the Lilith option, just because it makes the best
story.
