Some good points above. Obama's voting record is what it is (far left),
but
this was also a young man, and the young are particularly prone to sup****t

ideals that are marginally workable or unworkable in practice. From the
get-go, his economic team has been built around guys from the University
of
Chicago School of Economics, which is the world's primary Hayekian
think-tank; and although the leftists have been rationalizing this little
fact away by claming that U of Chicago has moved away from this
orientation,
that-just-ain't-so. Add to that the recent addition of folks what were
part
of Robert Rubin's economic team in the late 90's, and you can see the
writing on the wall -- the far leftists who envision Obama turning the US
into Sweden or re-establi****ng Carter-era taxation rates are about to get
thrown under the bus (but, thanks for all that hard work during the
primary
campaign.)

On the faith-based issue, critics of the faith based programs AND of the
political power the "religious right" has in the US ought to consider that

the political right didn't start to develop in this country until certain
court decisions in the 60's (be they right or be they wrong) made them
feel
that they had no seat at the table. Active public/church partner****ps
through the faith-based initiative program are probably the best way to
lessen their interest in active political involvement.

It's all triangulation at this point. Obama's not as much "tacking" to the

center as he has spun the wheel around and floored it, heading back to
this
"political center." Part of it's to get elected, I'm sure, but part of it
must be as you have said -- he's gotten the equivalent of three or four
new
bachelor's degrees in various government disciplines over he last 18
monts,
and really, REALLY smart people have been telling him -- "look, dude, that

stuff plays in Berekely and Madison, but it won't get you elected, and
besides (and more im****tantly) that **** won't work in practice, anyway.")

He doesn't get my vote until he backs off the infernal 28% capital gains
threat, but he's definitely moving to the center.
