Good point, plus it's also a violation of international law which is why 
Saddam had to be forcibly extracted from Kuwait. It's also why the UN 
imposed all the resolutions & sanctions against Saddam at the conclusion
of 
Gulf I.

However when Saddam continually violated those sanctions plus he
threatened 
the world with his WMDs, with the possibility of passing them off to 
extremist, well the US response was the most prudent one for the security
of 
the nation. Now if the next president isn't so prudent, the US may not be
so 
safe. Time will tell.
