We're not done exploiting the last Big New Thing yet.  For example,
I've only had a cellphone for three years.  But then, I'm not fond of
phones.  :-)

The Next Big Thing rarely comes around until The Same Old Thing is
really old and tired.  The first time I saw a guy wearing a bluetooth
device, I instantly thought of Lando Calrissian's aide, Lobot.  Won't
be long before fitted and/or embedded devices will be able to amplify
human abilities in various ways much as the telephone revolutionized
communication and productivity in the early 20th century.  Look how
long it took the phone to get old and tired before it reinvented
itself with wireless.

The next big thing could be "Bionics".  Combined with increasingly
sophisticated hardware, software, motor power and sensing abilities,
robotics could replace vast swathes of human labor if let loose.

McCain's fighting with the Catholics and some businessman put up a
billboard with an image of the burning towers captioned in large
letters "Don't vote for a Democrat." then a url.  I don't know which
is more disturbing, the image itself (which haunts me to this day) or
that it ignores the simple fact that 9/11 happened on a Republican's
watch.

Latest scandal brewing is the War on Terror.  CNN's Drew Griffin's
name appeared on the TSA watch list a month after he aired a re****t
exposing that fewer than 1% of domestic flights have an air marshall
on them.  He flies a lot but can't check in electronically, check
baggage at the curb or use a frequent flyer kiosk.  He has to wait in
line to check in at the desk where a call will have be made to
somebody who will come and verify that he's not a terrorist.  This
evening he's airing a piece on a lawyer named Kenneth Dobson whose
name has suddenly appeared on that watch list and who also flies
regularly.

The TSA is blaming the airlines, the airlines say they're just using
the list provided to them by the TSA.
