I tend to rankle people when I say that gas prices aren't high enough.
If the carmakers refuse to use technology to increase MPGs or invest in
LEVs
or ZEVs, then force consumers hand by taxing and pricing gas so that they
make an environmentally wise decision. And once they do, and the gas
guzzlers and hummers becoem too expensive to drive, will the supply side
start to ease. Then there's all those two-strke engines to consider in
environmentally unfriendly and economically booming India and China.
The best thing I have read lately, and I have to give Walmart credit
(which
I hate because I despise Walmart), is that because of their gargantuan
size,
they have told tractor-trailer makers that they will buy from whichever
company makes the most fuel efficient engines, as higher gas prices are
cutting into their profits.
I also believe that they will be the company to bring socialized medicine
to
this country, because they are so big and are griping to anyone who will
listen about the strangling economic effects of providing health care to
employees. Look at the companies that have moved to Canada and Germany,
who
say despite higher taxes, it's stil cheaper for them to locate there than
pay health care for employees here.
