Sharon Stone Apologizes to China - But Shouldn't Have

by bw@[EMAIL PROTECTED] (B1ackwater) May 29, 2008 at 11:21 AM

CNN
BEIJING, China (AP) -- French fa****on house Christian Dior said
Thursday it has dropped Sharon Stone from its Chinese advertisements
and released a statement from the actress apologizing for saying the
earthquake that struck China may have been the result of bad "karma"
over its treatment of Tibet.

Actress Sharon Stone suggested last week that the May 12 earthquake
could have been the result of bad karma.

The 50-year-old actress said she was "deeply sorry" for causing
anguish and anger among Chinese people with her remarks in an
interview last week. Stone models for Christian Dior SA, and the
company's Shanghai office issued the statement.

The public relations manager for Dior in Shanghai who gave only her
surname, Guo, said Stone would no longer appear in the company's
advertisements in China.

"Due to my inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel
deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people," Stone said in the
statement. "I am willing to take part in the relief work of China's
earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese
people."

Ya know ... I'm totally SICK of hearing people
   apologize for weird/un-PC/insensitive stuff they
say. It pisses me off more than their initial
utterances. It's supposed to be a free country
and you have the RIGHT to be "outrageous" - so
proudly say your peace, say what you mean, and
DON'T APOLOGIZE afterwards like some contrite
4-year-old prompted by her angry mommy.

Yep ... Stones "karma" statement WAS the moral
equivalent of Jerry Falwell or Rev. Wright
claiming the 9-11 attack was "punishment from
gawd for Americas sins / gay marriage / <fill-
   in-blank>".

Kinda dumb - but that's what they REALLY felt.
Right, wrong or otherwise ... that's their take
on the subject and they ought not cover it with
whitewash and BS afterwards. It diminishes them,
empowers the censorious SOBs of the world and is
   just plain embarassing to hear.

So, say what you mean and mean what you say.
ACT like you live in a free country or soon
   you WON'T. There's no end of self-serving
buttheads out there eager to dictate what
everybody feels, thinks and says and they
don't have YOUR interests at heart. Give
   'em the finger.
