Broward man shot intruder, cops say
Tue, May. 27, 2008
A Fort Lauderdale homeowner shot and wounded an intruder early Tuesday
morning.
The intruder, identified by police as Michael Anderson, 35, was taken
to Broward General Medical Center with minor injuries and then booked
into jail, said Fort Lauderdale police spokesman Sgt. Frank Sousa.
It happened just after midnight in the 100 block of Southwest 31st
Avenue.
According to police, the homeowner, David Hadden, 50, was asleep in
his home when he heard noises coming from his back ****ch. Other people
were also in the house at the time.
He went into an enclosed ****ch area and tried to get out the rear
patio door, which had been broken into. When he tried, Anderson pushed
the door in, trapping the homeowner in the house.
The homeowner got a handgun and yelled back into the house to call
911. He told the intruder to leave.
When he didn't, Hadden fired rounds at him.
After a short hospital stay, Anderson was charged with burglary and
aggravated assault, police said.
