Same-*** marriage ruling violates God’s law, group says

ANAHEIM, Calif. – Last month’s California Supreme Court ruling in favor of
same-*** marriages
will "corrode the very structure of society," according to a statement
released on May 22 by
the Islamic Shura Council of southern California.
"Marriage in our faith is defined as a man and a woman coming together
under God to form a
family that will promote and perpetuate life," read the statement in part.
"These are the
values that Muslims stand by, together with a vast majority of citizens of
all faiths."
The Shura Council claims the Supreme Court’s ruling is a violation of
God’s law as clearly
given in the Qur’an and the Bible.
"We urge all people of faith – Jews, Christians and Muslims – to work
together and overturn
this decision through ballot initiatives and protect traditional family
values for the benefit
of our society and all humanity," the statement read.
"We do believe that the traditional family structure has passed the test
of time in keeping
societies strong and humanity secure."
The organization did make clear that it opposes all forms of
discrimination against anyone on
the basis of their orientation or belief. The Shura Council is an umbrella
organization of
mosques & Muslim organizations serving more than a half-million Muslims in
southern California.
Attorneys representing same-*** couples filed a legal brief on May 28
opposing a request to
stay the court’s ruling and prevent couples from marrying for several
months. The request to
stay the California Supreme Court’s ruling was filed shortly before the
Memorial Day weekend by
the Alliance Defense Fund, on behalf of the Proposition 22 Legal Defense &
Education Fund.
