America had poured millions and millions of dollars into South Korean
as military and economic aid. Some of them are coming back to finince
the religious right through Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church
which collects from his South Korean members.
"In the late 1980s, Moon bought the Wa****ngton Times, a conservatice
daily newspaper that provides a home to many prominent right-wing
pundit even as its loses millions of dollars every year.
In 1995, Moon spent 3.5 million to bail out Falwells' near bankrupt
Liberty University. The next year, Moon's New World Communication lent
LIberty an additional $400,000.14
Recently, Moon has put his resources behind the faith-based cause. In
the weeks before the April 2001 conference at the Library of Congress,
Moon barnstormed across the country, giving a series of speeches
plugging Bush's faith-based proposal. He invited local ministers and
gave many who attended gold Christian Bernard watches, each valued at
several thousand dollars, as a symbol of his "unchanging love."
