Dumb Bill O'Reilly, who calls himself a libertarian, does not even
understand how the free-market system system works. He ignorantly blames
big
American oil and "greedy" speculators for the high price of gasoline
failing
to understand that the the oil companies take only
4% of gasoline sales as profit whereas the "greedy" governments takes
about
15%. Recently he said that Saudi Arabia produces oil at $2 a barrel. This
is
nuts. Saudi oil workers unlike American are not unionized but even with
slave labor in their oil industry they could not produce oil at $2 a
barrel.
As for speculators, they are not greedier than anybody else. When they
speculate on the price of oil going up they can make money. But whenever a
correction occurs, they lose. When the oil market collapsed in the early
1980s oil speculators lost billions. Market speculating is a very risky
business.
No, the stupid Reilly should understand that that it is the market rise in
the price of oil that is causing the increased speculation, not the
reverse.
Now the world is seeing speculation is food staples and fertilizer as
demand
increases and supply declines.
Does Reilley also not realize that the U.S. oil firms produce only about
18%
of the world's oil? That Saudi Arabia's government run Aramaco makes ten
times the profit make by America's Exxon? The price of oil is almost
completely outside the control of the U.S.
O'Reilly, who knows ****-all about economics is all for biofuels. But does
he know that a gallon of ethanol or methanol costs much more than a gallon
of gasoline
to produce? Also the growing of corn, soybeans and other crops for fuel is
now causing big hikes in the price of food as supply diminishes. This is
not
the answer. And non fossil, carbon-based energy production, biofuels,
wind,
water, solar energy production, at the maximum would only supplant about
20%
of America's energy needs. Building many more nuclear reactors would help
greatly, of course, but "liberals" do not want that.
Switching to another flaw in Bill O'Reilly, he often uses poor grammar
using
"laying" incorrectly instead of "lying" as in the sentence "The police
found
the
the body laying (sic) in the alley". Even more egregious is O'Reilly's
frequently using "went" in space of "gone", e.g. after the suspect had
left
the bar and (had) went (sic) to his motel. As a former high school teacher
and Harvard graduate Reilly should know that "to lay" is a transitive verb
and "gone" is the past participle of the
verb "to go".
