If the issue was just non-oil energy, why doesn't the US just use
coal? You've said several times that oil as energy really is
closely connected to the trans****tation sector. Certainly in the
US, electrical power from coal is already built out and could
easily be increased.

The internal combustion engine, which Al Gore hates, actually is a
wonderful device that can burn most any gaseous fuel, even gasified
wood. So it certainly can run on natural gas.
