The pigs are anesthetized you stupid ****ing moron.  Of course they are
alive,
it wouldn't do much good shooting dead pigs then trying to "save" them. 
The
procedure is overseen by vets to ensure the animals are treated as
humanely as
possible in order to sharpen the skills of our medics.  They used to use
goats,
but pigs are respond more realistically as a human substitute.

Pigs are much easier to work with than brain dead posters from yahoo.
