As humans we make value-based decisions. So, what is the value in breaking

CryptoSMS? effectively 0. How much notoriety will be gained from the
break? 
effectively 0. What is the value in factoring a large composite? Well ...
if 
you factor a 2048-bit number it is worth at least $200,000

How much notoriety will be 
gained by the factorization? It won't make you a household name, but it
will 
give you a great deal of credibility in the field.

That is why people work on factoring, but noone has bothered with
CryptoSMS.
