Personally I don't think the government gives a flying **** about
cannabis either way. I'm sure they'd prefer the whole issue to just go
away and leave them alone.
That last review was a master stroke by Clarke. It was just before an
election and the Tories and the press were starting to give Labour
some flak about Blunkett's reclassification to class C. By announcing
the new review, the results of which would be announced after the
election, Clarke pulled the fangs of the whole issue and shut down the
debate, thus taking the heat off Labour. Damned good move, that,
political genius at work.
