The claim by letter write Nick Ames:
"Guns in homes put more kids at risk than *** offenders:
"If a *** offender moves into your neighborhood, you would probably
freak out, even though studies reveal the vast majority of registered
offenders do not re-offend nor are they a threat to re-offend."
(Note the use in the story of "registered" *** offenders. Note as well
that the "vast majority" of guns aren't used to kill anyone, either)
"The child who killed his sister could have killed yours ("Police: Boy
kills sister, 4,'' May 5). We hear of kids killing each other all the
time playing with guns, yet we are more concerned with people who no
longer are a threat to society."
What Nick fails to consider is:
# 1 of 5 girls will be ***ually molested before her 18th birthday.
# 1 of 6 boys will be ***ually molested before his 18th birthday.
# There are 400,000 new victims of ***ual assault every year.
# There are over 550,000 registered *** offenders in the US.
# There are over 100,000 *** offenders that fail to register in the
US.

Recidivism rates range from 27% to 17%

The gun/molester comparison is typical leftist bull****.
