In 628 Mohammed made the Treaty of Hudaybiyya, and not
long thereafter, broke it. Shortly thereafter he issued
some Koranic verses that justified breaking the treaty
and required all Muslims to do similarly. Most Muslims
interpret this precedent and verses as forbidding any
lasting peace between Muslims and infidels and
invalidating any peace treaty between Muslims and
infidels. Not all Muslims so interpret it, but those
that do not are weaseling, and lack moral authority.
They are reluctant to debate or dispute those that do
interpret it as requiring war without end till the
entire world is defeated.. If the majority interpret
Islam as permitting indefinite peace with unsubdued
infidels, the majority is silent and invisible.

The majority of Muslims doubtless favor peace, as
do all men, but they feel a bit guilty and ashamed
about it, and are somewhat furtive in their sup****t
for peace.
