Effects of Implants on Children

Six years ago I was implanted with saline breast implants...absolutely
loved them, showed them off, and felt they weren't harming me in any
way because I felt healthy and looked healthy. Little did I know that
they were leaking neurotoxic and carcinogenic chemicals into my body,
wearing down my liver and silently wreaking havoc on my immune system.
By the time the damage was done, I was very sick with autoimmune
symptoms.

It is only now that I am scrutinizing the research (or lack thereof)
on breast implants. What I am feeling now is "Thank God I did not have
implants during pregnancy or breastfeed my children when they were
in!!" It is only now that I am finding women whose implants have
affected their children's health in serious ways. Only now because
when I was researching augmentation, the information wasn't out there.
I wasn't aware of these sick women and children before, because often
times their posts are removed from pro-implant sites, or they are so
desperately trying to regain their own health and that of their
children's that they can't post as much as they would like. They are
out there though, and I have been corresponding with them on the Yahoo
Group Silicone Kids. If you have questions, that is the place to go.

Many innocent kids are suffering with esophaegeal issues, rashes,
auto-immunie disorders, autistic-like symptoms, digestive issues, skin
disorders, as well as cognitive issues and deformed extremities and
*** organs in more extreme cases. To say it is frightening is an
understatement and the guilt these poor mothers face is terribly sad.

The bottom line is the information is NOT out there because long-term
studies have not been implemented on the effects of children. Anyone
contemplating implants will frequently see plastic surgery sites
saying that the Institute of Medicine says "…that evidence for health
effects in children related to maternal breast implants is
insufficient or flawed", giving the consumer the impression that the
studies aren't accurate so it's perfectly safe. No, the information
isn't flawed...it's insufficient, meaning the research has not been
completed...it is absent. Not only do they slant the words to disguise
evidence as inaccurate, they post a pic of a gorgeous woman with big
breasts on the same page, enticing young women, many who aren't
contemplating children for several more years. These young women don't
have the ability to really think through the impact on their future
children, as it seems too far in the distance and out of their
developmental stage...and even if it wasn't, the women just assume the
studies are "flawed". Yeah, right. Let's see these studies.

Seven-Year-Olds Contemplating Face Lifts and Breast Implants?

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/03/25/miss.bimbo/

It seems that children’s website games have recently become all the
rage. Today I happened to see an article about a website geared toward
young girls called “Miss Bimbo”. If the title isn’t appalling enough,
wait ‘til you hear what the object of the game is: to become the most
famous, richest and beautiful “bimbo” in the world. Girls, ages 7-17,
are spending their hours in front of the computer taking care of their
virtual doll bimbos…selecting ***y lingerie for them, starving them,
searching for sugar daddies, and playing games so that they rack up
enough money to buy breast implants and face lifts for their dolls!
Here’s an example of some of the levels girls try to achieve:

    * Level 7--After you broke up with your boyfriend you went on an
eating binge! Now it's time to diet .Your target weight is less than
132 lbs.
    * Level 9--Have a nip-and-tuck operation for a brand new face.
You've found work as a model.
    * Level 10--Summertime is coming up and bikini weather is upon us.
You want to turn heads on the beach don't you?
    * Level 11--Bigger is better! Have a breast operation.
    * Level 17--There is a billionaire on vacation ... You must catch
his eye and his love! Good luck!

It makes me sad that our world is so caught up in money and looks that
we are giving into superficiality at the expense of our children…not
just through websites but through the personal decisions we make as
adults and parents. It’s time we really sit down and think about the
values we pass on to our children. It’s not enough just to talk about
it. Based on my own experience, I am realizing that our actions speak
louder than words. Six years ago I had breast augmentation, not
thinking about the effects on my children, only the effects it would
have on me. I don’t have daughters, yet if I did, I now realize that
no matter how much I would talk about the im****tance of
self-acceptance and character traits over beauty, my actions of
plastic surgery would negate much of what I instilled in them through
discussion…basically I’d be saying do what I say, but don’t do as I
do.
