> - enemies of Israel are enemies of Canada
Oops, bad start there, Harper. Israel is the friend of nobody, not
even the USA.
> - Canada has to take a principled position on the Middle East, and not
> bow to political pressure from voting demographics
Sounds nice ... when is he going to start?
> - Israel is a beacon in the Middle East
A beacon? Hmmm, if he means that Israel is all alone, and is on
fire, maybe I'd agree with him.
> - Canada sup****ts a democratic Palestinian state- but that can only
> happen when Israel’s enemies allow Israel to live in peace.
Wrong -- if Israel is going to continue to behave like a gangster
state, and continue to commit crimes against humanity, there is no
reason at all for the Palestinians to let Israel "live in peace."
> - it is not a question of demographics- it is a question of what is
> right and wrong
Ultimately, it is a question of demographics, which is perhaps just
as well, since none of these bozo politicians would know right from
wrong if it bit them in the ass.
> - in some circles, anti-Israeli sentiment is a thinly disguised for
> antisemitism which is unacceptable
Wrong, again. Criticism of Israel is just that ... criticism of
Israel. And boy, does Israel deserve to be criticized.
> - those who hate and wish to destroy the Jewish people will destroy
> the rest of us today- it was true in WW2, it is true today
This statement doesn't even make any sense.
> - this government is not prepared to cater to that kind of sentiment
What kind of sentiment? Nobody wants to destroy the Jewish people.
The Arabs are pissed off at the behavior of Israel. With good
reason. They have Jews living in their own lands, as good citizens.
Jews have lived in Arab nations for thousands of years.
> - Canada and Israel will remain steadfast friends
Again, Israel is friend to no other nation on the face of the earth.
Israel uses other nations for its own purposes, to as great an
extent as those other nations allow themselves to be used.
> - Israel’s existence as a nation of freedom and democracy in the
> Middle East is consistent with Canada’s short and long term interests
The existence, or non-existence, of Israel has no direct bearing on
the well-being of Canada. None. It would probably make the Middle
East a more stable and safer place to live and to visit, if Israel
ceased to exist, but the removal of Israel wouldn't matter to the
rest of the world in any significant respect. Nobody cares about
Israel, one way or the other, other than that it has been such a
consistent pain in the ass.
