Were they politically useful?
I just finished "Tamerlane", by Marzoli, on the last great Islamic
conqueror. He says as far as Tamerlane was concerned, Allah was an
excuse to rape, pillage, and burn the infidel, and if they were Muslims
who had anything, then they were bad Muslims who desrved, as we now say,
the same victimhood.
I dont defend Christianity, but exposing its faults does not justify
Islam's. How about Buddhism? How many Buddhist monks have been suicide
bombers when they wanted troops out of Vietnam? How many women and kids
did they kill? Have Buddhists used artillery against ancient sacred
Islamic monuments? Do they rob Islamic graves for artifacts or deface
Islamic art?
I have a copy of the Maitreyasamiti texts in Tocharian A, which dates
from the 5th century. Its a conversation between the living Buddah and
the Gautamid Queen of Kucha. When mysogeny comes up, Buddha replies that
he was raised and educated by women, and condemns it. The Queen makes
reference to the "arrogant Sakyas" who operate like druglords, and we
see still run much of Central Asia. Islam is an excuse for thuggary and
mysogeny, and as we see in Tamerlane, always has been.
