Why not simply add slow release iron / old tin cans to grow algae a
bit slower , then let prawns eat the algae as it grows , thus solve 2
problems at once
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_fertilization#Carbon_sequestration

If you add iron too fast the zooplankton take a few weeks to build up
enough to eat it

Move slowly into peak production and let the prawns eat the algae for
free while you lite the BBQ and make a pot of tea

If you add too much Iron too quickly or the prawns have no nursery to
grow in then you will get algae blooms

Add used tin food cans and you have the right balance and will cure
global warming and food shortage all for free

Olympic sailing venue in China cleared of most of algae
http://www.zeenews.com/articles.asp?aid=453916&sid=WOR
Beijing, July 08: After working at a furious pace for last 10 days,
troops, fishermen and volunteers have brought down the coverage of
algae in sea water from 32 percent to 1.37 percent at the Olympic
sailing venue in Qingdao.

The algae coverage in the 49.48 sq km Olympic sailing venue was
reduced to 0.679 square kms since June 28, when the area covered by
the weeds stood at 15.86 sq km, the north China sea branch of the
state oceanic administration said.

The algae, when first detected on May 31 off the Dagong island, had
covered one third of the 50 sq km to be used for the sailing events.
More than 130,000 soldiers and volunteers worked at a frenetic pace to
clean the weeds.

Altogether 2,085 vessels were at work yesterday, searching and
removing algae, while fishermen who had been seasonally laid off by
the summer fi****ng ban were now paid by government for the work, wan
Yiqiu, an official with Qingdao oceanic and fishery bureau was quoted
as saying by state-run Xinhua news agency.
