Well, as a Canadian you are living in a fairly socialist country.
About average, by international standards.  Much more socialist than
the United States, for example.  Many socialist elements -- such as
free health care -- you probably take for granted.  So, their
effectiveness is not obvious to you.  Because you take socialism for
granted.
