NOT BOMBS AND ROCKETS ARE NEEDED FOR THIS PURPOSE, BUT THE WEAPON OF
MASS ATTRACTION: BOMBS OF DEMOCRACY, INFORMATION, TRUTH, SOLIDARITY AND
SUP****T
29/09/2004
Statement by Nikolaj Khramov, secretary of the movement "Russian
Radicals"
The open letter to the governments of the countries of the NATO and the
EU, signed by one hundred prominent public figures of the West, calling
on them "to speak the truth about Putin's Russia", "to put themselves
unambiguously on the side of democratic forces in Russia", having
realized a moral duty of the West in respect of "tens of thousands of
Russian democrats who are still fighting to preserve democracy and
human freedom in their country" - is an essentially new signal, an
essentially new sign of hope for all of us in Russia.
Putin must leave - more and more people in our country begin to repeat
these words after few desperate dissidents of our recent past, after
Harry Kasparov who proclaimed this slogan from the pages of the Wall
Street Journal. These people are both among the political class and
among the ordinary citizens who begin to come to their senses after the
"toilet-rating" witchcraft and to understand that the huge security
service rising above the country can't guarantee to the Russians
neither peace nor stability, nor freedom (however illusory this value
seems to those whom political scientists call by a contemptuous
nickname "electorate"), nor - above all - safety.
Putin's regime - maybe not nazi yet, but already quite fascist - must
be destroyed. And it will be inevitably destroyed. But the truth is
that we - citizens and patriots of our country - today, in conditions
of total Kremlin's control over TV (and gradually over newspapers too
already), in conditions of absence of judicial system, in conditions of
actual (and according to last Putin's initiatives - legal) absence of
the op****tunity to participate in a real election process, are deprived
of the op****tunity to do it without moral and political sup****t from
the outside. Approximately like Serbian citizens were deprived of such
op****tunity during ten years of Milosevic's dictator****p, like German
antifascists in hitlerite Germany, like few Iraqi democrats who
remained in the country under Saddam's power, were deprived of such
op****tunity.
In the name of freedom, in the name of legitimate rights of all our
citizens - Putin's regime can be and must be destroyed with active
participation of the countries of the free world, the countries of the
West. But for this purpose the governmental offices in Wa****ngton,
London, Berlin, Paris, Rome should realize their real interests and
their responsibility for the destiny of democracy all over the world,
including Eastern Europe (not only in Iraq), to abandon their
short-sighted, immoral and truly Munich policies of oil-and-gas
interests which dooms to genocide the people of Chechnya, to
dictator****p - the people of Russia, and to revival of the "cold war" -
the peoples of the countries of the West. Common bombs and rockets are
not needed to stop Putin and to destroy his regime. Other weapon is
needed - the weapon of mass attraction: bombs of democracy,
information, truth, solidarity and sup****t to those who in our country
do their utmost trying to defend freedom, democracy and justice. And,
above all, a political will to call what is happening in our country by
its name, for all to hear and at the highest levels.
As to us - those whom the Kremlin via Surkov, not hesitating already,
calls internal enemies and the "fifth column" - many of us haven't
forgotten yet the experience of resistance to the communist regime in
the eighties. Henceforth the Kremlin calls it a war and not politics?
Well, we are at war. Citizens and patriots of our country, we - without
unnecessary illusions - remain at our battle post, armed with the
weapon of nonviolence and being convicted of righteousness of our
ideals, in order to conduct the fight for freedom, democracy and the
rule of law, against the dictator****p and the fascist regime.
